WHAT I AM ABOUT
Hi, my name is Gary McCallum.
I am the proprietor of All Things Painting, Consulting & Project Managing.
Over the years, since 1979, I have seen a lot of changes in the building and construction industry. One thing that I have noted as the years have gone by, that has been consistent. Is that, if there is no accountability, a painting project can quickly become light on the specification. Due to a lack of preparation, one coat instead of two, and poor repairs. Which a lot of the time, cannot be seen until the warranty period is over. Thus, in the life of a paint system, means it will fail ahead of time.
On exterior paint jobs, if prepared correctly, and specified number of coats are applied, should be minimum 7 years. Sometimes less when closer to the coast, due to salt abrasion. This can be extended if you add a maintenance plan to your property.
I have always been a believer, that you should get what you pay for. I know I don't appreciate being ripped off or short changed. So I have always tried my best as a painting contractor, to give my clients what I have specified in my quotations. That's how I know as a Consultant & Project Manager, of where the shortfalls are in a painting project. Thus, improving the tendering process and enforcing the specification, to give a quality outcome through accountability. Therefore giving my clients value for money.
In this business, I endeavour to bring together good quality painting contractors, who have the capabilities to match a project size, to Body Corporates, Strata Managers, Building Managers, School Maintenance Managers, Aged Care Facility Managers and any project that requires painting management. I will always advise a client if I find a problem with a potential painting contractor.
I know where the pitfalls are in a painting project. With many years of experience. watching, wondering, devising and finally putting together a very good system of project quality control, by applying a simple approach to each project. Accountability is Everything.
Sytems of Accountability
I have developed the systems of accountability to give my clients what they pay for: which starts with a detailed Tender document which requires each painting contractor quoting on your project, to give a detailed scope of works and specification. They are required to confirm that they will complete my detailed repairs list and photos as well as standard preparation. The painting contractor will be required to give a paint company invoice with project details for each completed stage, with products used and paint quantities purchased. This must match my measurements, before they can invoice. They will also need to match their WH&S height access management to a site plan they delivered in the tendering stage, which keeps them accountable for height safety. With my included site visits weekly, as described in my initial proposal, accountability will be paramount. From preparation to application, to completed stage, to completion of project.
